When the surgery is closed, if you are in need of urgent medical attention, please dial 111 to contact the NHS 111 Service. How likely are you to recommend our GP practice to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment? The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

If you have a high temperature, new continuous cough or a loss of, or change in your normal sense of taste or smell please do not attend the surgery.
Services
We provide the full range of general medical services, minor surgery including minor eye procedures, child health promotion, travel advice and vaccination, anticoagulant monitoring and provide treatment of minor injuries.
We offer the full range of contraception choices and provide Sexually Transmitted Infection screening.
Health promotion is an important feature of the practice.
Antenatal, NHS health checks, vascular disease, hypertension, asthma and COPD and diabetes clinics are held regularly.
We offer a limited number of appointments, both face to face & telephone, outside of normal hours for patients whose circumstances make it difficult to attend during normal working hours.
The Extended Access Service provides evening and weekend pre-bookable routine appointments with GPs, Nurses and Pharmacists.
The service is available in North Cumbria, which makes it easier for you to get a routine appointment at a time that suits you.
The NHS 111 and the CHoC Out of Hours service is still available for unplanned primary health care needs.
You can phone the 24-hour repeat prescription line on 016973 44668 which has a pre-recorded message with full instructions and is accessed by surgery staff throughout the day or the next working day if messages are left after surgery closes or at the weekend.
You can also use the local pharmacy to order your repeat medication and they will make the request to us on your behalf.
Please allow at least 48 hours (2 working days) notice to collect from surgery.
If you collect your prescription from a pharmacy it will be sent within 2 days, however collection times for individual pharmacies vary.
I am originally from the Brighton area but trained in London for my medical degree.
I moved up to Cumbria in 1998 to become a GP and joined the Wigton practice in 2005.
My special interests are contraception and sexual health and dermatology.
I am an active member of a church in Carlisle and love travelling to the far-flung corners of the globe.
I also cultivate cacti.
I hail from Kerala, the southern tip of India but have now been in the UK for the past 18 years.
My special interest is ophthalmology.
We are the only GP practice in Wigton which is a market town about 11 miles West of Carlisle.
We are a semi-rural practice with a list size of approximately 8800 patients which has increased in recent years with new housing developments in the area.
Some community services are based with us in the new building.
There are an on-site pharmacy and a good sized car park.
We frequently have an extra doctor doing their 4 months Post Graduate GP post attached to the practice and we have medical students from time to time.
