Acupuncture is effective in treating most ailments presented at a GP's surgery.
It is especially valuable in chronic diseases that orthodox medicine can only alleviate with drugs.
Acupuncture also recognises and treats many disharmonies that have no medical diagnosis, a non-specific 'not quite right' feeling characterized by any of the following: tiredness, lethargy, vague aches and pains, digestive problems, difficulty in sleeping, anxiety, tension, palpitations or dizziness.
People with addictions to smoking, drugs or alcohol may be helped by acupuncture to reduce their dependencies.
Acupressure is given instead of, or in addition to, acupuncture.
Acupressure is essentially acupuncture without needles.
Different massage methods are used with strong stimulation to specific acupuncture points on the body.
Acupressure works like acupuncture to stimulate the flow of Qi (energy) and blood along the meridians to heal the body.
It is very comfortable and relaxing and is usually the patient's favourite part of the treatment.
Acupressure massage uses the professional's hands to alter the function, flexibility and tension in the muscles and joints of the body.
Most people find that the tea is at least a little bitter and sometimes unpleasant to taste.
Honey can be added as a sweetener but it is generally accepted that the benefits of the medicine far outweigh the bitter taste.
Traditionally, Chinese herbs are boiled in a soup, or as a tea, to extract the essence of the herbs, which is then drunk by the patient.
However, the herbal capsules make Chinese Herbal Therapy more accessible and convenient for busy, modern lifestyles.
Chinese medicine in general does not conflict with Western medicine and may be used as a complementary therapy.
All hospitals in China that are devoted to Traditional Chinese Medicine include a massage clinic along with acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Chinese massage was developed over 2,000 years ago and was popular in the Tang, Ming, and Qing dynasties.
The Chinese call this therapeutic bodywork TUI NA, which literally means push and pull.
TuiNa works with the energy system in the body, (Chi), which flows through channels called meridians.
By stimulating, or subduing, the energy in the body practitioners help bring the patient's body back into balance.
