Stirchley Medical Practice was founded in 1973 to serve the three Telford New Town estates of Stirchley, Brookside and Randlay. The founding partners, Dr Andrewes and Dr Chuter, had a radical vision of providing holistic care for the whole community out of one building. Instead of treating everything with pills, they gave people time to talk. The practice gained a national reputation for excellence.

Over the years scores of younger doctors came here to train as GPs, and many of them have never left. Despite the many changes in society and the NHS over the last 30 years, Stirchley Practice holds true to the founders vision of providing the best possible holistic care for the whole community.
Services
We aim to offer a personal and efficient service by offering both pre-bookable appointment sessions and "same-day access" sessions.
You should always endeavour to see the same Doctor for continuity of care, however you are free to see any of the other Doctors.
We provide a large number of appointments on the day to enable patients who need to be seen immediately to be booked in, so for instance should you or your child suffer an urgent or distressing condition you can obtain a medical opinion that morning or afternoon.
You may be able to discuss your problem with the doctor on the phone instead of having an appointment.
Please ring before 11am and leave your number for the doctor to ring you back as soon as it is convenient.
Interruptions during surgery appointments are upsetting for both the patient and the doctor.
A nurse surgery specifically to enable you to see a member of the health care team quickly and without having to wait for a telephone call from a nurse.
A problem that you have not seen your doctor with before, or a problem that you may have had before but sometime ago.
Shropshire Doctors Co-operative Ltd (Shropdoc) provides urgent medical services for patients when the surgery is closed and whose needs cannot safely wait until the surgery is next open, i.e. evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
The receptionist will then arrange for you to speak with a health professional who will ask you questions about the patients symptoms in order to decide what service you need.
On many occasions a GP or another health professional will be able to offer you advice over the telephone.
Patients on regular medication from their GP or hospital clinic do not always need to see the doctor for a repeat of their medication.
You will be issued with a computer slip attached to your prescription, detailing your medication.
This option allows you to order your medication via a secure log-in, the prescription request goes directly to your GP, and then electronically to your chosen pharmacy or you can collect from the front desk.
If not, all you need to do is come to the front desk with ID and the team will give you the necessary log-on details.
It is not necessary to have a Doctor's certificate until you have been absent continuously from work for seven days including weekends.
After three days you must obtain a self-certificate (SC2) from your employer.
If your employer insists on a private certificate for an illness of less than seven days duration then the Doctor will charge a fee of 10.
If your illness continues for more than seven days then under the NHS your GP can issue an official statement (Med3) "fit to work certificate" to confirm your illness.
